Nearly 30 years ago, North American Bear Company began as a creative business enterprise of a new mother, Barbara Isenberg, starting a family in New York City in the mid-1970’s. Her desire to find a teddy bear with the nostalgic charm of an antique toy and a contemporary sense of whimsy for her own small son prompted the start
of a toy company creating unique, high quality plush bears that would appeal to both children and adults alike.

Make My Own Toy program was inspired by the creativity and heartfelt innocence of two young North American Bear staff children, Justis and Niko, who designed several of the soft characters in the popular My 
Own Monster™ and My Own Bear™ collections supporting children in need. Designs by kids for kids is the unique idea behind the Make My Own Toy experience that all begins with a child’s imagination, a few colored pencils and drawing paper to get started.
